HTS and the Interguild

HTS belongs to an organization called Interguild. Annual dues are paid to this organization, which allows all parents at the school to be active members.

What is the Interguild?

Interguild is an organization that brings together representatives of Guild/Parent Associations of Independent Schools in Ontario and Canada. These schools are members of the Canadian Association of Independent Schools (CAIS) and in Ontario, the Conference of Independent Schools (CIS).

Mission statement:

Interguild's purpose is to share ideas and information with fellow members and foster communications.

History of Interguild

In 1989 a group of parents recognized a need for a gathering of various guilds of independent schools. A meeting was held at Ridley College in St. Catharines. In the fall of 1990 regular meetings started in which the Interguild was defined. A constitution was written, a mission statement was developed and membership requirements were stipulated.

Parents of member schools were the liaison between their Guild/Parent organizations and the Interguild. As schools grew and expanded, some chose to designate their own Interguild Representative, as is the case with Holy Trinity. Membership has increased from seven schools in 1989 to thirty eight Guild/Parent Associations in 2004.

Who is on the Interguild?

The Interguild is made comprised of an Executive Committee of eight members, one of whom acts as chair. Each member represents a different school. They meet about five times a year and each spring an annual general meeting is hosted by a member school to elect the new Executive Committee and review current business.

We are proud to announce that Wendy Fursey, a past-president of the HTS Parents' Guild and an active volunteer in our school community, is the President of the Interguild for the 2008-2009 school year.

What does the Interguild do?

The goal of the Interguild is to link communications with independent school parent associations. To meet its goal, Interguild provides workshops throughout the school term. People donate their skills and time to the Interguild to facilitate the sharing of ideas and information on topics of interest to all member schools.
