Welcome to the Parents’ Guild
The Parents’ Guild is a volunteer organization and a valued member of the Holy Trinity School community. From field trips and fund raising, to friendships and “fun raising”, the Guild plays an important role in many aspects of school life.
Every HTS parent is a member of the Parent Guild, and we invite you to come out to the events, or consider taking part in the many volunteer opportunities available. Here are some --but not all-- Guild activities and events to look forward to. You can click on the links to request more information or to volunteer. Make sure to scan the entire list!
Do you have an idea for an event not listed here? Want more information about these or other events? Contact Pamela Merkel to find out more, or to share your ideas.
Family Mentors Every year, families new to HTS are matched with mentor volunteers who help ease the transition into the school year by answering questions, making introductions, calming fears, and being a friendly voice. Interested in mentoring? A few hours of your time will make a valuable contribution to our HTS community. Click here for more information on the Family Mentor program.
Grade Parents An important liaison between home and school, grade parents contact parents in their assigned home form, informing them of important dates and events. Lower School Grade Parents work with teachers to plan celebrations throughout the year. Click here for more information on the Grade Parent program.
Hawk Shop Sales Helpers are needed to work in the Guild’s school store to assist customers, ring in sales, and keep the store neat and tidy. Volunteering in the Hawk Shop is a great way to meet new friends -- and to get a good parking spot! Click here for more information on the Hawk Shop.
Library Helpers Volunteers help our two school librarians by preparing Birthday Book Programme letters in the Lower School and distributing them monthly, providing assistance at the annual Book Fair, and helping reshelf books. Being a Library helper is a great way to contribute to the academic life of the school.
Lost and Found Providing a valuable resource to our parents, volunteers sort and return labeled items to your child’s homeroom on Thursday afternoon, and display the rest on racks outside Gym 1 on Fridays before classes and again after school. They routinely organize unclaimed items for sale at a discount in the Hawk Shop or for donation to charity.
Sports Hospitality Consider this volunteer opportunity if your child is active in school sports. Volunteers help the sports department by assisting coaches in various activities such as hosting visiting teams at weekend or overnight tournaments, and organizing the annual Coaches Breakfast. This is a fun way to help out, and to cheer on our teams!
Father Bob Run A start-of-school tradition, volunteers hand out water at the finish line to thirsty runners of all ages. Helping at this event is great way for new parents to meet friends, and see the kids “in action”.
Magazine and Gift Wrap Campaign Our annual fall fundraiser, helpers are needed to sort out forms for magazine and gift wrap orders. It’s a great way to help the Guild’s fund raising efforts, and to meet new friends and chat.
Popsicle Day Another start-of-school tradition, volunteers hand out free popsicles to kids of all ages outside the Dining Hall during lunch hours. This one-time event is another great way for parents new to the school to meet friends.
Carols and Cookies: an HTS Family Christmas Celebration A warm and friendly ushering in of the Christmas season that includes a morning candle-lit Chapel service, Christmas carol sing-along, followed by baked seasonal goodies and warm cider for everyone, plus lots of Christmas cheer for the whole family!
Christmas Carol Service Volunteers are needed to help coordinate facility layout, refreshments, and decorations at our school community’s annual Christmas celebration at Holy Trinity Church in Thornhill. A warm celebration for a special time of year, this event is an annual Christmas tradition for many families at our school.
Middle and Senior School Parents’ Grade Lunches When our children have outgrown aftercare, we have fewer opportunities to keep in touch with one another, or to make new friends. Annual lunches are organized by grade, for parents of each child in that grade. Each lunch is at the same local restaurant, and organizers are needed to send invitations and organize rsvps. Get some friends together and organize your grade lunch!
Sundaes on Thursday On the last Thursday before March Break parent volunteers help children of all ages assemble their own ice cream sundaes. It’s lots of gooey fun. Hooray!
Trinity Fair A school-wide Friday afternoon “friend raiser” held in May, volunteers are needed to organize and staff Trinity Fair events. Planning starts in February, so come help us out, and shake off those winter blues.
Used Textbook Sale This annual consignment sale is an end-of-school tradition at HTS, where 10s, 11s, and 12s sell their used textbooks with the Guild’s help. Proceeds are shared equally between the student sellers and the school libraries, where librarians use the funds to purchase resource materials. Helping out at the Used Textbook Sale will make a valuable and lasting contribution to the school.
“The Parents’ Guild exists to enhance the social, physical, and spiritual environment of the school, while fostering community spirit among students, staff and friends of the school.”
