Aftercare
The Lower School Aftercare Programme is available for families with a genuine need for child care after the daily dismissal times. Our paramount concern in designing these routines is the safe supervision and pick up of your children. The first portion Aftercare will be focused on a study period intended for homework completion and reading.
Primary students can be picked up at the end of classes or co-curricular activities by a parent/guardian or a sibling, who is in grade 7 or above, at a student’s homeroom and taken directly to transportation. After ten minutes, any remaining students will be escorted to the Aftercare Room (Dining Hall). Primary students are not permitted to wait outside for their ride home.
Junior students may make their own way directly to their rides home, either after class or at the end of co-curriculars. However, they may not wait outside for their ride. Without exception, once the busses have left, all Junior students will be directed to wait in the Aftercare Room.
A bus duty teacher will be supervising outside and enforcing the SCHOOL POLICY that all Lower School students, not immediately picked up, must go to Aftercare. This is an issue of safety when there are so many cars in motion in the school’s traffic area.
Aftercare is free until 5:00 p.m. After 5:00 p.m., the normal drop-in rate of $6.00 applies. Regular users are requested to pre-register for the Aftercare Programme and will be billed a flat rate of $600.00 at the beginning of the school year. Tax receipts are only issued to those who pre-register and pay the flat rate. Occasional users will be billed for any time used after 5:00 p.m.
Parents or guardians who pick up students from the Aftercare Room have three options:
1. They may come into the Aftercare Room (Dining Hall) to sign their children out.
2. They may send a Middle or Senior School sibling to pick up, provided an advance release has been submitted. Siblings who pick up younger family member must escort them directly to their ride home. They may not supervise them for an extended period of time on the school property.
3. When necessary, parents or guardians may send an alternate guardian to pick up their child provided a permission form authorizing the arrangement has been completed in advance.
In the event of an emergency or delay when parents or guardians cannot pick up their child by the Aftercare closing time of 6:00 pm, they are asked to call Lystra Jaikaran, the Aftercare Specialist directly. Her contact number will be published in the near future. Families will be billed a late fee of $1.00 per minute.
