The Lower School
Holy Trinity School is a co-educational independent school founded in 1981 at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Thornhill, Ontario. At present we are located on Bayview Avenue on 33 acres, in beautiful new and recently renovated buildings. The school provides a wide range of educational opportunities based on the pursuit of logic, reason, and truth.
The Primary Programme
The Primary School has seven classes from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 3. Each class has 16-20 students, which allows for many opportunities for individual attention and enrichment for these young children. Our core subjects: Language, Math, Social Studies and Science, are all taught by the homeroom teacher. Specialist teachers instruct Music, French, Phys. Ed., Art and Religious Knowledge. We also visit the library and the computer lab to extend our learning.
Dismissal for primary students is at 3:05 p.m. For those students who cannot be picked up at 3:05, there is a supervised after school time offered Monday through Thursday from 3:10 - 4:10 p.m. After the Thanksgiving holiday, Primary Clubs will be offered on Wednesday afternoons from 3:10-4:10 p.m.
During the year we celebrate and showcase the children in many activities and special events such as: Memories and Muffins, Christmas Concert, Mother’s Day Celebration, Grandparents’ Day and more!
Please visit the website for more in-depth details about our school, programmes and special theme days/weeks. You can also get to know us better when you peruse the site and learn more about a typical day in the Primary School.
The Junior School Programme
The Junior School consists of Grades 4-6 with 2 classrooms for each grade. Each class has 24 students with a homeform teacher who teaches the core subjects of language arts, mathematics and social studies. The Junior School also has specialist teachers for French, science, religious knowledge, guidance, music, library, computer support and physical education.
Dismissal for Junior Students is at 3:05 p.m. However, we at Holy Trinity support a well-balanced academic and co-curricular programme, so there are a variety of activities available from 3:10 - 4:10 p.m. Monday through Thursday if you and your child decide that he/she wants to participate. These clubs, sports, and study hall sessions are designed to enrich your child's learning experience here at HTS. You can choose to take full advantage of these, or you may decide that your child needs to be picked up at 3:05 p.m. on any or all of these days. It is entirely up to you! We want to encourage and nurture well-balanced children, yet we understand the demands that some of you might have outside of school.
A variety of clubs and quiet Study Hall will be available during the week. Extra help sessions with teachers are certainly available, and these sessions can be scheduled with any teacher on an as-need basis. This allows for better controlled, small group and individual meetings. Competitive sports teams will have try outs at the beginning of each term, and these teams will have practice daily Monday through Wednesday, with the occasional Thursday game. Please note the before and after school schedule below:
Before School
Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. - Study Hall in the Dining Hall
After School
Monday - Wednesday 3:05 p.m. to 4:10 p.m. - Co-curriculars* (If students do not participate in co-curriculars, they are dismissed to go home.)
Thursday and Friday 3:05 p.m. to 4:10 p.m. - Study Hall in the Dining Hall
Monday - Friday 4:15 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. - Aftercare* (Please note that from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. there is a nominal charge for Aftercare.)
Many special events occur throughout the year for the whole school. These include Communion Services, Christmas Assembly, Father Bob Run, Founders’ Weekend, Thanksgiving Food Drive, United Way Appeal Week, 1-2-3 Christmas Drive, Christmas Carol Service, Trinco Day and awards ceremonies.
In addition to these events, the Junior School is committed to enriching the child’s education in many ways beyond the classroom. Trips to outdoor education centres, daily and overnight trips to historical and cultural venues provide the enrichment that we support at HTS.
Sharing days are very special for the school. It is on these days that a student may replace the uniform with home dress for a toonie. Many charities have been the recipients of the generosity of our students on these days.
Christmas concerts, theme weeks, Christmas Luncheon, ski trip, Jump Rope for Heart, and sports day are just a few of the other special occasions in which the Junior school participates.
