The first day of Lent was observed at HTS with a school-wide Ash Wednesday Communion service this morning. The service included hymns, several scripture readings, prayers and a Chapel talk by the Reverend Canon Dawn Davis of Holy Trinity Church in Aurora.
Mr. Rehill continued in the tradition of canting a responsorial psalm, while Mr. Whitebread gave a gospel reading and Mr. Burke led the prayers. Students also had the opportunity to contribute to the service, as Grade 7 student Marc S gave the first reading, Grade 12 Prefect Robert R sang, and the Grade 3 choir performed the “Kyrie Eleison” and “Sanctus” led by Lower School music teacher Danielle Stock. The service also included the imposition of ashes and a Holy Communion for those students and teachers who wished to participate.
Ash Wednesday is one of three Communion services held at HTS during the school year. The Confirmation Communion service will be held May 8, 2012.
