An endowment is a fund in which the original contributions are preserved and invested to generate income. The purpose for which the investment income will be used is established when the fund is set up and may include such things as scholarships, awards, programme enhancement and campus maintenance. The advantage of an endowment fund is that the principal remains intact while income generated provides support for the school in perpetuity.

Endowment funds are created through gifts by individuals, corporations or foundations. Gifts to an endowment may be made for restricted or unrestricted purposes at the donor’s discretion. A member of the Development Office will work with the donor to create terms of reference for a restricted gift to endowment.

HTS employs an outside investment manager, who invests the school’s endowment funds according to investment policies and objectives provided to it by HTS. The Investment Committee of the Board of Governors reviews the investment manager’s performance.

Yes, at our last fiscal year end we had $5M in funds. This year $120,000 in bursaries and scholarships were provided to students with demonstrated financial need. In addition, each year HTS adds to these funds to ensure funding is available for future bursaries.
