As our oldest Lower School students begin to think about the exciting future that lies ahead in Middle School just a few short months away, we have created a unique new program designed to explore and celebrate the amazing people they are today.

The HTS Believes Legacy Project is an exciting new program all Grade 5 and 6 students will participate in during the third term. Students will work with world-class Canadian athlete, Sarah Wells, who will guide them through a series of lessons and activities designed to activate a deeper understanding of who they are and the values they stand for as a result of the life they have led in Lower School.

Using the HTS Character Creed and its four core moral values as the basis for our discussion and reflections, Sarah will lead students through a series of workshops designed to teach them about the trait of resilience as she recounts her experiences as an Olympic athlete and a contestant on the Amazing Race Canada. In addition to Sarah’s incredible story and experience, each student will be supported through class curriculum connections, Middle School teacher coaches, as well as mentoring from Senior School TEDEd club members.

The culminating task of this powerful experience is a TED Talk-style reflection. The talks will be recorded and shared with students as a legacy piece, honouring their time and contributions to the Lower School community. Students will also have the opportunity to present their talks to a live, virtual audience in a celebration forum. This work will serve as the basis for a successful transition into the Middle School as students will bring their recorded reflections and supporting iBook portfolios with them into the Middle School Advisory Program.

The HTS Believes Legacy Project is an incredible opportunity for all Grade 5 and 6 HTS students to confidently close one chapter of their educational journey while successfully launching the next. As our campus continues to grow and develop in exciting new ways, we look forward to bringing this powerful character development experience to our students.
