From November 10 to November 13, our HTS Model United Nations (HTS MUN) team went to Montréal, Quebec, and competed in the Secondary School’s United Nations Symposium (SSUNS) conference hosted by McGill University. The HTS MUN team competed against 800+ students from 49 other schools at this international conference. Our team was made up of 3 faculty and 20 students: Nayna N., Ashna N., Eudee N., Kelley L., Sydney C., Mya I., Ibrahim Q., Jacob Q., Mustafa Q., Peter R., Oscar P., Jorin L., Joshua S., Ludy F., Gabriel L., Stanley F., Edison H., Eric S., Andrew Z. and Bijan V. We had a successful conference where delegates engaged in diplomacy and collaboration, and we also toured McGill University and bonded as a team. Delegates were tired from the long hours of debating, but were thrilled to be competing in person again.

Congratulations to the HTS MUN team for bringing home two gavels! Congratulations to Bijan V. for winning the Sergeant Tommy Award for Diplomatic Finesse, awarded for outstanding skills as a delegate and strengths as an orator, communicator and inspirational leader during committee. Congratulations to Edison H. for winning the Hide Hyodo Shimizu award for Peacemaking, awarded for outstanding skills as a delegate and in recognition of a delegate’s work to find common ground among all parties and to promote peaceful solutions to the committee topics. Bijan and Edison will each receive a certificate of recognition and a gavel. Our delegation had an unforgettable experience in Montréal and we are proud of all the delegates who participated.

The team has already started training for our next conference, North American Invitational Model United Nations (NAIMUN) in Washington DC in February 2023!
