I’m Valerie and I'm in Grade 6. My friend, Chloe Ellis, and I worked hard in the Fashion Forward club to come up and complete a spring dress. It is a white sleeveless dress with a shifting and see-through layer of pink tulle over it, yellow flower shapes decorate the bottom of the skirt in a gradient-like pattern. It is concentrated with flowers from the bottom of the skirt and gradually runs up to the waistband with less and less flowers.
In the club, I had a great time. It was fun to learn how to sew and learn more about creating clothes and fashion. At first, I only joined Fashion Forward because my best friend did. I wasn’t that interested in clothes or fashion, and it still isn’t a super huge passion of mine, but it was exciting to see a design you worked on for weeks coming to life.
My favourite part was the process was seeing it start as lumps of white, pink and yellow, to a wearable, light dress that moves like waves every time you take a step. I think my advice to people next year who want to join is to not be afraid to take risks. When I started using a sewing machine, I had quit the moment I messed up. It took me a while to start sewing because of it, but I quickly got the hang of it.
I recommend this club to all students. I think it's a great opportunity to have fun and learn.
