On November 24, the Junior and Senior Girls volleyball teams started their seasons at the annual Sir John A. Macdonald C.I. volleyball tournament featuring seven schools from the Toronto District and Catholic District School Boards.
In the round-robin, the girls steam rolled through L'Amoreaux C.I., Sir John A. Macdonald C.I. and Birchmount Park C.I. to finish at the top of their pool. They proceeded to easily defeat Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts in the quarter finals and North Toronto C.I. in the semi-finals. In a much tougher battle, HTS defeated Sir Oliver Mowat C.I. in the finals in two hard-fought sets to capture the championship. The Junior Girls volleyball team were also finalists in this tournament, and it was a wonderful showing by both teams.
On December 15, the Senior Girls volleyball team travelled to Father Michael McGivney Catholic Academy to play in their volleyball invitation tournament featuring 11 schools from York Region District and Catholic District School Boards, Toronto Catholic District School Board and Durham District School Board.
The team competed in five round robin matches. Their only loss was a split to St. Maximilian Kolbe CHS, leaving them in second place in the pool having to face the home team Father Michael McGivney. In a tight match, the HTS Hawks won the first set, lost the second and fell behind 8-0 before capturing 15 of the last 20 points to win the deciding set 15-13. In the finals, it was a re-match against St. Maximilian. The girls overcame a 12-8 deficit in the third and deciding set to win it 16-14 and capture the championship. All who witnessed the semi-final and final matches were treated to some outstanding volleyball.
Congratulations girls on your tournament victories!
