Senior Girls Volleyball Team Makes History

John Tam, Coach
The Senior Girls Volleyball team had a tremendous week to end the second term.

As a result of the team going undefeated in league play, HTS hosted the CISAA Championships on March 2. Branksome Hall (AA), St. Clement's School (A) and Havergal College (AAA) travelled to our gyms to battle it out for gold. It was a unique Championship as all four teams would head off to their various OFSAA Provincial Championships shortly afterwards.
Havergal College easily defeated St. Clement's 3-0, while HTS had some difficulty during their 3-1 victory over Branksome Hall. This led to the much anticipated final, where HTS hoped to repeat their regular season victory over Havergal College when they handed them their first loss in over seven seasons. After a tight first set loss, HTS rallied to easily take the next three sets to capture HTS's second-ever CISAA Senior Girls Volleyball gold, and breaking Havergal College's streak of seven straight CISAA championships.
Two days later, the team headed to Windsor for the Provincial "A" OFSAA Championships. After a bronze medal last year, the girls were determined to not let the gold slip out of their grasp. The team was seeded #2 overall, and was placed in a pool with University of Toronto Schools (#5), Timmins HVS (#12), host school ESC E.J. Lajeunesse (#15) and Brampton Christian Academy (#18).  The HTS team went undefeated in round-robin pool play, only losing one set in a close victory over UTS.
In the quarter-finals, HTS defeated É.S. Père René de Galinée (#7) in three sets straight. In the semi-Finals, the girls met up against a feisty ESAC Mère Teresa (#14), in which HTS prevailed in a hard-fought three sets. The final was a re-match between HTS and UTS. HTS put on a very impressive display of volleyball, and their play peaked at the perfect time. They easily defeated UTS 3-0 to capture HTS's first ever OFSAA Championship!!
In many ways, the girls had a historical season. Not only was this the first ever OFSAA Championship for HTS, this is the first time in CISAA history that an "A" school has captured both the CISAA and OFSAA gold in the same season. The team was an impressive 32-2-2 in all of their matches this season and won four of the five tournaments (including OFSAA) that they played in.  Truly an amazing year by a group of phenomenal young women.
The members of the Championship teams are:
CISAA: Alessia B., Emily T., Sylvie B., Athena C., Phoebe C., Andrea R., Meera S., Lauren T.
OFSAA: Alessia B., Emily T., Sophia A., Sylvie B., Athena C., Haley C., Phoebe C., Christina I., Andrea R., Lauren T.
A special shout-out and thanks to co-captains Emily and Alessia for your leadership on and off the court the past two years.  Along with Emily and Alessia, Phoebe and Athena all finished their high school volleyball career with two monumental wins... what a way to go out!  Finally, best wishes to Emily as she continues her volleyball career next year at Columbia University.
