From October 24 to October 28, HTS will be participating in the school’s annual United Way week fundraising drive for the United Way of York Region.
For over 20 years, HTS has dedicated a full week to fundraising for the United Way, involving students, faculty members and parents in activities, auctions and assemblies focused on raising money for the organization. To date, HTS has raised $155,026 for United Way of York Region.
HTS is proud to have won the York Region Spirit Award five out of the past six years as the school with the best campaign in the region. Last year, HTS raised over $16,000 through its student and staff campaigns and the school has managed to raise up to $18,000 in the past.
“HTS’ student participation is phenomenal,” said Rob Schlee of United Way of York Region. “Year after year the schools creative and committed campaigns go above and beyond to support UWRY and its agencies.”
All week long, students and faculty members throughout the school will be raising money through selling goodies such asfreshly squeezed juice and smoothies, BBQ hot dogs and hamburgers and freshly brewed Starbucks coffee. Big ticket auction items such as seats to Leafs and Argos games will also be raffled, while Head of the Senior School Terry Reynolds has taken out his trusty shoe shining kit to offer “professional shines for a toonie” again this year.
“It’s a fun week full of games, prizes and excitement, but it’s also very meaningful for the students to understand the needs of people in our own community and to help out in any way they can,” says Terry Reynolds, Head of the Senior School and chief organizer of HTS’ United Way Campaign since 1988.
Agencies aided by the efforts of HTS include Big Brothers and Big Sisters of York, Yellow Brick House, Rose of Sharon, and CHATS among others.
This year, the school’s goal is to top our previous efforts. HTS is having a school-wide Sharing Day on Thursday, October 28, where students can dress down to recognize everyone’s hard work over the past week. We encourage everyone to participate in this exciting week for agreat cause!
