This summer, through the months of June and July, HTS will offer our first online Academic Enrichment opportunity focussed on helping interested students learn more about the emerging technology of Blockchain – an emerging and relevant technology that is having a significant impact on how businesses and organizations secure and ensure the integrity of data. 

A highly sought after certification, our course, developed in partnership with the Blockchain Learning Group, aims to provide students with a unique skill set and a launch into learning how to get started. As part of the program, students will consider existing applications and then be challenged to develop their own applications with a goal of solving real-world problems. The course will be comprised of 32 hours of online training with course content released and delivered in 2-hour sessions.

Key Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the fundamentals of Blockchain, the global Blockchain ecosystems, applicable use cases and potential for positive social impact
  • Learn about Ethereum, how to program using Solidity and build smart contracts
  • Build a ReactJS web application
  • Collaborate and ideate with fellow students to define a problem statement for which participants will then design and build a Blockchain application solution
  • Receive certification as a Blockchain Application Developer and Smart Contracts Developer. This credential grants students access to numerous paid and unpaid coding opportunities globally.
  • After completion of the course, students will also have access to Blockchain Learning Group’s Challenge Series. This virtual hackathon allows course participants to apply their learnings on an ongoing basis and address real-life problems; winning submissions can earn between $500-$5,000 per challenge in prize money.
Technology Requirement: Students will need a personal laptop or desktop computer to complete the course
Instructors: The Blockchain Learning Group, a team of experts that provide training to world-class organizations including the United Nations and the Toronto Stock Exchange. Support from Mrs. Stephanie Stephens and Mr. Jason Dickinson who will facilitate sessions at HTS.

Refund Policy

All cancellation requests must be received in writing by the Executive Director of Learning Innovation and Technology, Mrs. Stephanie Stephens. Requests submitted prior to Saturday, May 11, 2019, will be refunded minus a $100 administration fee. Refunds will not be issued for cancellation requests received after Saturday, May 11, 2019.

Refunds will not be issued for days missed for any reason.

Program changes can be accommodated at any time, if space is available, by contacting Mrs. Stephanie Stephens. Additional costs will be charged to your account where applicable. For changes submitted after Saturday, May 11, 2019, fee refunds resulting from program changes will be credited to your account, as there are no cash refunds. Programs may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, you will be notified if this is the case at the end of May with a full refund.

Please allow four weeks for processing of refunds.

Program Prerequisites

  • Basic understanding of software programming and the web
  • Basic programming experience with languages such as JavaScript, Python, Java or similar
  • Genuine interest and curiosity in Blockchain technology
  • Experience with web application development: JavaScript, jQuery, ReactJS, Angular, HTML and CSS
  • Experience with databases and general persistence: MySQL, MongoDB
  • Familiarity and comfort with command line interfaces
Must be an HTS student or alumni to register.
